• What The Poor Must learn From The Rich Be Rich

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer because of how they think and act. The mindset of the rich is different from that of the average person. The rich person has learned the truth of life. The wealthy individual knows that “life is not for self but for others”, in other words serving other people in the community and creating value in the ecosystem of life, creates wealth and riches. On the other hand, poor people always think that the rich are lucky and blessed. But the truth is that we are all blessed according to our ability. It is what we do with our ability that determines what good comes to us. The mindset of self-preservation and personal happiness is the key drawback for the poor person. They want to meet their immediate needs and wants without thinking about others.

The willingness of rich people to be selflessly confident and determined is the source of their courage in resource acquisition and management. They manage resources with courage, mindlessly seeking to add value to their society rather than their self. This is because they understand that in serving others they meet their own needs and wants. It is in the returns on investment that they find value in luxury.

The rich people have learned to harness the natural and environmental resources that are available to all on earth to create values that benefit everyone in their community and return, the community repays them with cash to continue to add value. This process is called investment, trade and commerce. Therefore, the rich have mastered the management of earth resources, for the good of others and the happiness of the world.

When we know ourselves through meditation on the truth and love for knowledge, with understanding and wisdom, our potential, gifts and talents fit into our world. In this mindset, the rich do not make choices based on the influence of society or their immediate environment. Rather they conjure the image of their world in their mind to bring their wishes to the point of belief and from belief to reality. This positive energy and mindset created by self-knowledge enable the rich to use for free the natural endowments of the earth to build riches either through production or service industry.

Rich people have learned to see opportunities in every need and every crisis. They panic in adversity like everyone, but it does not last. They cry, clean their tears, and open their eyes to see opportunities to make a better world. This is a habit of the rich. Necessity is the mother of invention. Crisis is always present on earth to offer opportunities to those who have developed their mindset to know the truth of life. Crisis is the tool used by the earth and the universe to provide opportunities for change and the creation of wealth.

Change is welcomed and used by the rich to create more wealth. This is why the rich are restless with the acquisition of knowledge and are always seeking to understand what opportunities the new knowledge will offer for them, to create a change and to generate commerce and business growth. Growth is change and progress. The rich have the confidence, determination and courage to seize opportunities and create value for society. The poor are always looking for the reasons for the change that occurred and who to blame. This mindset of looking for excuses for every change that occurs occupies the minds of the poor and stunts growth in positive thinking and making wealth. The poor always play the blame game because they do not understand that the engine of growth is crisis and change. When they obey the principle of multiplication of resources they create new values that change the environment and create opportunities for growth and wealth. This is a clear ignorance of the truth of life.

These qualities of the rich are learned from birth. It begins with the knowledge of core values in life, love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, diligence, perseverance, gentleness and self-control. It is our choice to learn these core values or to remain ignorant. Unfortunately, they are not taught in the classroom of any institution. They are learned at home and the teachers are the environment, parents, community, social ecosystem, culture and peers. It is within this choice process that all humans are equal. So we have to choose whether we want to be rich or poor by the type of habits we form and embrace. The basis of these two categories of life called rich and poor is a choice of mindset and values. The rich will always choose to invest resources and focus on earning rather than saving while the poor meet their wants with existing resources.

Consequently the rich get richer and the poor get poorer because the poor is always digging a hole that consumes resources while the rich creates more resources to enrich the earth and make it a better place. It is mindsets and understanding of the truth of life. When people steal money and resources they are not rich, because they have not created value. Wealth is the creation of value and the management of earthly resources to bring peace of mind, joy and goodwill to the world. Consequently, the poor will always be with us as long as there are good and bad choices.

  • What To Do Before Starting a Business Venture.

What To Do Before Starting a Business Venture.

In Nigeria and most of Africa, starting a business can be very stressful and discouraging. Economic activities that yield profits and bring added value to social life in the communities are at the rudimentary stages. Trade by barter is still existing in many rural areas and are now being frustrated by the new social and economic realities driven by technology. Societies have developed their own methods of entrepreneurship that depend on unwritten values and systems. However, with increased levels of education, cultural changes, urbanisation and increased unemployment, there is a rapid change in societal expectations and values that have introduced modern enterprise requirements.

It is significant to note that in post-colonial Africa, many educated people were not trained for business and do not possess the skills for modern business ventures.  Consequently, the ways of doing commercial activities have been changing and now demand new skill sets that may not be tangible but are natural and true.

Therefore, to many nascent entrepreneurs in Africa, it often feels like there are insurmountable obstacles to laying a good foundation for business in the communities. This situation may explain why most African entrepreneurs do not venture into enterprise and when they do, they quit when the going is tough and return to paid emplyment or nothing at all.

Starting a business in the African environment is a lot of work, but it is important to note that success is made of sterner stuff. However, there’s no avoiding some basic steps and reality for new small business owners who aspire to grow in future in the present day.

So with simple steps such as Prepare, Form, Fashion and Create, it is possible to develop a business mindset and take actions with a sense of purpose toward building the foundation of a strong business. Often experienced business consultants say to their clients, you must give it all. Giving it all is like directing energy to a blunt axe.  When the axe is sharpened then it can add value to the purpose.

The natural first step in starting a business is to be prepared and ready to do something that humanity will use, cherish and appreciate and are willing to give something in return to the entrepreneur or businessman for their efforts. This first step involves being convinced that one can do something useful to make the human community better. The conviction leads to a mindset change that will drive the ability to form the concept that leads to a defined but flexible pattern. This foundation or set out,  is forged by continual and dynamic experience as the enterprise is built in the mind of the business starter. Continuous meditation on the concept brings knowledge of the purpose of the business to the mind and strengthens the mindset through communications and linkages with experts and interested parties. This situation change also continually shapes the nature of the industry in the mind and creates the avenue for an appropriate understanding of the legal and financial aspects of the industry operations.

Upon this understanding, the image of the business begins to form in the entrepreneur’s mind and the Fashioning process begins. At this stage, the businessman begins to take inventory of the resources available in the environment that will support the shaping, structuring, fabricating and casting of the foundation of the enterprise. The structure of the enterprise determines the growth process and how far the business can go within the existing legal and financial policies and framework. This image may be blurred at first but will continue to be clear as the mind is transformed daily through the renewal of concept.

Then with a good visualisation of the business shape and structure, available resources can be used to create the business from the foundation to growth. The transformation of the wishes of the entrepreneur, to belief and the belief to reality is driven by an energy source only generated in oneself through thinking, meditation, knowledge, understanding and wisdom. This energy which sets the entrepreneurs apart, can be drawn by anyone who has such self-control to develop the mind to the point of obedience to the Infinite source of all things.

Anyone aiming to start a business venture on this earth must understand that there is a Spirit behind every business, and all entrepreneurs have absolute control of their minds and are obedient to their inner thoughts. The discovery of self is the beginning of wisdom and a successful business venture.

  • Nothing is Permanent In This World

    I

I copied this article long ago from an unknown source. Every time it reminds me of my passion for entrepreneurship and the notion that I am in control of everything.

When wisdom came I realised that until I embrace change, I have not lived. Change is the only permanent thing on earth. The story below has not been changed or modified. It tells the intended story and I hope it leads the young entrepreneur to serve rather than pursue money and profit. The fruits of the exploit of earth’s treasure is not for self but for others.

“I visited my 120years old grandmother and gave her some money when I was leaving and she told me she doesn’t need money again. That she can no longer buy or sell at her age, so I should give the money to the younger ones who need it.

I also have a former governor friend whom I worked with as a greenhorn journalist. He was governor from 1999-2007. Not too long ago, I saw him. After check-in, he was left seated by the corner of the Murtala Mohammed international airport awaiting his flight. No one even recognized him again, not even passengers from the State where he was governor, and as I walked up to him and greeted him, then asked if he wanted any assistance, he stretched forth his trembling hands to hold me and simply said, “Thank you for even recognizing me again. I just want your attention briefly my son. Sit down let me ask you something. How is Governor Ayade doing?”

I also have a retired Major General friend whom I served as a golf caddy at the NDA golf course in Kurmi Mashi, Kaduna. He was so rich he built a beautiful house he was so proud of. I visited him too not long ago and wanted us to climb to our favourite spot on his balcony upstairs. He stared at me with a broad smile and said, “Jally, I can’t remember the year I went up there. It is lizards and cobwebs and the likes that live there now. Even the kids, when they come, they don’t enjoy my company in the house any more than a few hours and they are gone. I don’t have the limbs to climb up there again and the cost of cleaning keeps getting higher.”

I have seen a lot more things. How yesterday became the day before, how today became yesterday, and how tomorrow became today. How the past became history, how the present became the past, and how the future became the present. Nothing ever remains where it is. Your strength, your muscles, your beauty, your wealth, your guts, your worth, your courage, your talent, your YOU, will progressively diminish until it returns to its source. The richest man in the world in the 1960s will be on the payroll of the richest man in the world today.

Even the strongest lion in the jungle will someday become weak, and frail and be eaten by the same predators it once terrorized.

Keep that in mind always and know that no matter how appealing and tempting that thing may seem, our interest in it will diminish with time. Our strength to consume or own it will vanish with time until everything is surely taken away from us or we are surely taken away from everything.”

  • Attributes That Will Sustain A Young Entrepreneur

    How to raise entrepreneurial kids

The aspiration of youth to become an entrepreneur stems from a burning passion to offer one’s skill and energy to make the world a better place. A personal invitation to follow this risky path of entrepreneurship requires knowledge, understanding and wisdom. The young entrepreneur must incorporate life-sustaining attributes such as faith and conviction, hope for a better world and charity and love for humanity for a successful venture.

    Faith And Conviction

When youths have faith in entrepreneurship, they develop a mindset that makes the subconscious mind see only possibilities. These convictions energise the mind to develop and imagine the solutions the venture hopes to provide. Faith in the venture provides evidence of things not seen until it becomes a reality in the mind of the young entrepreneur. Yet the subconscious mind will tell the young entrepreneur that there are standard operating procedures for the achievement of reality being seen by faith. Visualising the standard operating procedure is the understanding of the venture. The conviction in the process and procedure produces confidence in the development of prototypes for the venture.

Faith and conviction are principles of power, and entrepreneurs work by the power of the mind. Doubt and fear of failure disappear because of the strong conviction and the ability of the mind to visualise and create the business.

    Hope

Hope is the abiding trust that the processes and procedures visualised in the subconscious mind are possible. This vision becomes manifest in confidence, optimism, peace and patience. The young entrepreneur believes that something will occur. When there is hope, entrepreneurs go through trials and difficulties with trust and faith. That implies that all things are transforming to bring the venture to reality. Hope helps the young entrepreneur conquer discouragement. Hope describes the assurance that the proposed venture will succeed and multiply.

The young entrepreneur must learn to press forward with steadfastness and hope for the proposed venture to become a reality. Hope propels action and is the beginning of the physicalisation of a business venture.

    Charity and love

Charity is pure love for the prosperity of humanity. It includes boundless love for innovation and creativity. When young entrepreneurs develop that kind of love for humanity, using their natural gifts for the service of humanity is love.

The young entrepreneur must avoid negative feelings such as anger, envy, greed and lust. They must develop the attributes of patience and endurance, hard work and consistency, and discipline and diligence. These positive traits are learned, and it helps through the challenging situations in entrepreneurship. Young entrepreneurs will develop charity as they look for opportunities to serve others and give of themselves.

  • Prepare Your Children for Entrepreneurship With These Essential Life Skills

Parents and mentors must lay a foundation of strong conviction, discipline and diligence, character and respect for others, generosity and quality culture, networking and friendliness and patience and endurance at home, for a child to build the substructure for life in entrepreneurship. An entrepreneur must constantly assess and learn to adapt to new environments using these homegrown skills to ensure lasting success in life. It is the goal of this blog to review and create an understanding of the essential skills as they relate to one another.

    Conviction

This attribute that can be inherited from parents or mentors applies especially to an opinion strongly held by an individual or a family. A conviction is a belief an individual is ready to die for, as opposed to a held belief that is something one accepts as true but it is arguable. Conviction is a principle developed through meditation, knowledge of the truth, understanding and wisdom. Individuals or families who have well-thought-out principles and values have healthier relationships. They are more resistant to external social pressure and more easily resist bad habits such as drug or alcohol abuse. When parents teach children the principle of telling the truth at all times, it makes the children feel good about themselves through a positive perspective. They develop high self-worth, feel assured, and will defend their beliefs and hold up against bullying and ridicule. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who stood by strong convictions and regardless of how he was being treated, he stood with dignity, grace, and love.

Children who are taught to have a strong conviction or inherit this important core value, live to have certainty and certitude such that they grow up in a state of being free from doubt.

    Character and Respect

Character is the personality and moral or ethical qualities of a person who has traits like integrity, honesty, courage, loyalty, fortitude, and other essential attributes that promote good behaviour. These character traits define who the child is and highly influence the choices they make in their lives. When the child shows unpleasant characters they are unpleasant, unreliable and dishonest. So, it is beneficial to teach children good moral character because it will help them learn honesty and reliability, achieve peace of mind, sleep well at night, strengthen trust with friends and peers, and build a solid reputation with other people. An excellent character in children assists them to reduce anxiety, build self-confidence, and leadership qualities, and live a purpose-driven life.

Similarly, respect means accepting somebody for who they are, even when they differ from them or do not agree with them. Respect in relationships builds feelings of trust, safety, and well-being among people. Children must learn that respect does not have to come to anyone naturally, it has to be earned through consistent learning. Respect for and between persons exists in three distinctive aspects human recognition respect, status recognition respect and appraisal respect. These same aspects or dimensions of respect are at play in the development of self-respect in children. Therefore, to be a talented student of entrepreneurship, children must learn respect for life, people and things so that friendliness, trust and a good network which are essential virtues for success will flourish as they grow to adulthood.

    Quality

Successful people learn to do the right thing at all times, no matter how difficult it may seem. Doing the right thing at all times with little thought is a Quality culture. The learning of quality culture involves learning to gain knowledge of how things work, meditating on the truth of the knowledge leads to the understanding of how to achieve the goals required by the truth of the knowledge. Then learning to use knowledge and the understanding of the process required by the truth of knowledge to serve others or find solutions to known societal problems is wisdom. Wisdom is the foundation of creativity and quality delivery.

This process implies that parents and mentors study their wards and understand how they learn, and help them become interested in acquiring a knowledge of life skills and principles so that they learn to follow life processes with patience and endurance to achieve a goal and solve life problems. In raising children who wish to become entrepreneurs, seeking knowledge, understanding and wisdom for life is the principal attribute for success.

Parents and Mentors must discipline children not to seek shortcuts to problem-solving, but learn to stick to life processes and have the confidence to change them if necessary. Children must understand that all paths of life have a sustainable process offered by wisdom, knowledge and understanding, but it will take discipline to follow such processes while waiting for the results of the transformation of the inputs into results. Quality culture demands patience and endurance and this is a mandatory lesson in entrepreneurship education.

    Patience and Endurance

Patience stems from learning endurance and it is the quality of being able to wait for an answer or result, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or process of life. It is also the ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay. This is a difficult trait to develop in children, but with patient persuasion, parents and mentors can teach their children the importance of waiting for results and outputs. Children must learn that delay is not denial and waiting is not weakness or lack of control.

Endurance is the ability to withstand hardship or adversity, especially the ability to sustain a prolonged stressful effort or activity. This skill is essential in the management of failures and adversity in life. Sports and academics are the best teachers of this skill, and parents are encouraged to put their children into sports that they like early enough to make an impact.

With patience and resilience, children will remain focused on their goals despite any unexpected adversity. By learning patience and endurance they will understand that their goal is still possible and worth continuing toward, and do not get bogged down by the clouded judgment that frustration can bring in life. In short, patience helps them stay focused and effective for the long haul.

Patience puts the children in direct control of themselves, and there is no more powerful aid to success than self-possession. When children learn to be patient, they give themselves time to choose how to respond to an event, rather than get emotionally hijacked by their emotions. It allows them to stay gathered no matter what is happening and appreciate delayed gratification. Entrepreneurship education demands sound knowledge and understanding of the use of patience and understanding.

    Discipline and Diligence

Today there are several options and theories of parenting, but none of the virtues is more controversial than the application of discipline. Some people believe in the discipline of children, while others believe in negotiation and discussion. The author believes that parents and mentors should not spare discipline because children are like new computers and will only do what the software demands. So when parents teach children to behave and work in a controlled way which involves obeying particular rules, guidelines or standards the children learn to be true to their word. When they decide to do something, it is set in stone, and they do not even need an accountability partner to keep them on track.

Someone who is self-disciplined can control themselves and make themselves work hard or behave particularly with no one else to tell them what to do. Most religions teach their members to be truthful and self-disciplined.

Similarly, the diligent person is constant in their effort to accomplish something and is attentive and persistent in doing anything. Diligence may rather be regarded as a combination of both hard work and patience because being persistent requires patience. It is also one of the most important attributes of a good person. Diligence is applied strengths, or “strengths in action.”

Working in one’s area of strength provides a natural motivation to care about one’s work and the perseverance to carry it through to completion. Not only does it cause the children to achieve their goals, but it also makes a favourable impression on others who work with them.

In developing a sense of discipline, children must be taught not to procrastinate or to delay doing something until a later time because they do not want to do it.

Procrastination and laziness are two different concepts: procrastination involves delaying unnecessarily, whereas laziness involves being voluntarily unwilling to exert necessary effort. Neither attribute is good for entrepreneurship and life goals.

    Networking and Friendliness

The concept of community and the interdependence of the ecosystem is a principal attribute a child must learn if they will prosper in life. The fact that no man is an Island is an important concept for entrepreneurial development. Teaching children networking is about interacting and engaging with people for mutual benefit. When children with networks face challenges in life, their peers and network may provide them with advice and share their knowledge and skills to help them overcome their challenges.

Networking gives access to new opportunities, insights, new techniques, information, strategies, and proficiency. The purpose of networking is to make new friends, acquaintances, and useful partners.

By being friendly with others, children learn to initiate mutual respect. Being friendly towards others will help them feel better about themselves, and will understand how to spread love and others happy. Simple kindness and friendliness are both a skill and a value. It involves parts of other values, such as empathy of sensitivity and the boldness of courage, but it is a very separate and different value from these.

Empathy, Loyalty, Trust, Honesty and Respect are the five virtues parents and mentors should all strive to embody in the life skill that their children must learn early in life to be successful. While these qualities are arguably the most important to cultivate to understand how to maintain healthy and uplifting friendships, establishing a trusted network through friendship is wisdom.

    Generosity

The act of giving to others is central to the human condition and has particular relevance for influencing others because the people that we provide help stand ready to help us in return. A generous person does not give indiscriminately but seeks to give in a way that is good and fine. This requires giving to the right people, in the right amounts, at the right time, with pleasure, and without looking out for oneself. Generosity is “being careful with what we have so that we can share.” Generosity does not only mean giving other people money and things, but giving time, attention, hard work, patience, kind words, and talents to help and encourage others.

This means when children are taught generosity early, they are more likely to give back to their community when they succeed as entrepreneurs. Generous individuals are personally more fulfilled, happier and more peaceful with themselves, than stingy persons. Entrepreneurship is about meeting needs and giving to the community meets collective needs and prospers the community. Learning the skill of generosity is mandatory for any child that wants to become an entrepreneur because it is more honourable to give than to receive.

  • Life Skills Children Must Possess To Become Entrepreneurs.

Every person on earth is imbued with personality traits, aptitudes and skills that make them unique. Some of these attributes are natural while others are learned, but they all work together to help us achieve our purpose in the world. Children spend years in school learning some of these skills and preparing themselves for a career or for entrepreneurship.

Parents and mentors want their wards to survive the challenges of life through to adulthood. Being, successful is not about academic or financial performance but is related to fulfilment, joy and happiness in life. Therefore parents must focus on equipping their children with the required life skills to be successful.

Life skills refer to the “abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to cope with the demands and challenges of everyday life.” It is a combination of emotional, social, and cognitive abilities. However, cognitive-based life skills such as decision-making, problem-solving, goal-setting and time management bring more purpose and order into the children’s daily and future life. Also, emotional intelligence is crucial to forming healthy relationships in their lives.

The goal is for the children to become well-adjusted, responsible, and positive-minded adults. This process begins at home and parents and mentors, have the responsibility to teach these essential skills to their children and model them consistently until they become part of their children’s habits and frame of mind.

This implies that children need to be proficient in varied abilities to navigate the technologically advanced and globalized world and the emerging Gig economy.

  • Why Motivate Children To Become Entrepreneurs.

With increased digital knowledge and its incorporation into the business world, the future workforce will face challenges and opportunities. Consequently, it is imperative that we prepare our children for these forthcoming changes. Different versions of Gig economies, short-time contracts, freelancing, and various concepts will gain momentum in the global workforce. Scholarly research shows there is a possibility of less than 10% of full-time jobs being available in the next decade. Therefore, an entrepreneurial mindset has become the absolute need of the hour. An entrepreneur is a person who organizes, operates and assumes the risk of a business venture while transforming ideas into a profitable solution that solves the problem of society. The present digital and information age is moving the world towards the Gig economy, where everyone will become a business owner and own side jobs besides their primary jobs. Therefore, knowing how to run a business is critical for the survival and existence of humanity. Acquiring entrepreneurial knowledge will offer children and youths more options in life. Though being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, it will be good for the children to have options and have more freedom of career choice as they grow up to adulthood. In cases where a parent is uninterested in entrepreneurship, the children may not learn how to become self-employed and establish independence from their parents. It is obvious that these types of parents will not serve as good role models for their children entrepreneurs. Recent studies have shown that children and youth entrepreneurship education are the most crucial tool for growth, innovation, and creativity development in the competitive world of the Gig economy. Teaching and mentoring children and youths in entrepreneurship and innovation enhance the analytical and logical skills that enable them to solve problems. Exposure of children and youth to entrepreneurship also provides financial and digital literacy, teamwork and network skills, creativity, and communication skills that are needed to thrive in the new economy while helping their communities prosper. Parents and mentors who prepare their children early for the world of entrepreneurship will certainly be ahead of the game. Hence, the goal of this blog is to justify why a guide for parents or mentors, seeking knowledge about how to raise a child entrepreneur is very important at this time. This blog is further aimed at providing the ingredients and nuggets needed by parents and mentors for transforming a child’s mindset into that of an entrepreneur. Look out for more discussions on this topic in my future blogs. In summary, children and youths who are given the opportunity to become entrepreneurs ultimately assist their communities in creating jobs and businesses that will increase their overall productivity.
